THE FAMILY
In 1936 Rosemary Wood’s aunt Effia and uncle Ralph Heins (along with Effia’s mother) acquired the 1,600-acre Beltane Ranch to raise turkeys, sheep and cattle. They hosted family, guests and friends in the dilapidated 1892 ranch house. In 1960 Rosemary restored the now-landmarked Victorian and welcomed Julia Child as one of her first inn guests. By 1972, her daughter joined her, focusing on the ranch’s estate vineyards and gardens, and raising her children on the property. Today, Rosemary’s daughter Alexa Wood, and grandchildren Alex Benward & Lauren Benward Krause, operate the vineyard, winery, farm stay inn, & gardens, and steward over 50 acres of open space. Lauren’s children make the sixth generation.
We look forward to welcoming you to the ranch.
